The problem.
Roughly 8 million metric tons of plastic enter the ocean each year. Most of it comes from a relatively small number of rivers, which is what makes the cleanup approach tractable in the first place.
The approach.
The Ocean Cleanup deploys two systems: river-mouth Interceptors that catch plastic before it reaches the ocean, and large-scale extraction systems for the existing garbage patches. Both are independently verified and tracked.
Our role.
We make apparel. They clean oceans. The 5% of profits we send each quarter is small, but it compounds with every piece sold. The more shirts in the world, the more plastic out of the ocean.
